The anticipated day arrived, it was Thursday, September 26, 2024. Another year! Another spectacular Le Diner En Blanc in New York City. The location is always a mystery till the early evening. This year, Le Diner En Blanc New York was celebrated in Union Square. 

If you are wondering why it's called Le Diner En Blanc? Well, It all started in Paris, France 🇫🇷 where a small group of people decided to have a pop-up white luxury picnic-style dinner in 1988. It was a simple idea to just gather friends, friends of friends, for a night of conversations, food, and wine in an iconic setting. The idea of dressing in white would elevate the gathering and a way to spot each other in a public space. Who would have thought that 36 years later, this small event would continue yearly? In the afternoon groups of people fabulously dressed in white gather in different areas of New York City to meet with their correspondent groups. The team leaders gather the troops to guide each group and head to the final destination. Every person in the group is responsible for bringing their tables, chairs, table accents, and food. The cost for a pedestrian ticket was $58 + $14 = $72. The purchase would give you a spot to position your table and chairs with a designated group. Attendees had the opportunity to bring their food or purchase in advance food and liquor to pick up at Le Diner En Blanc. Some people decide creating their dinner and bringing it to the event is part of the experience, while other people think it is just simpler to order it directly from Le Diner En Blanc.   

For the first time ever, Le Diner En Blanc offered an opportunity to enjoy the Le Diner En Blanc experience without carrying a table and chairs. This year, the pedestrian with tables and chairs purchase would cost you $80 + $14 = $94 per person.

The Theme: The Masquerade Ball

The event officially begins during the waving of the white napkins. The event was another wonderful success as 4,000 of your closest friends, all wearing white enjoyed the night in Union Square.  Check out our reel and photos below showcasing the wonderful tables, ensembles, and decor, including a white carousel where guests were able to sit and enjoy.

As the evening went by, music from Canadian DJ Samantha Michelle exhilarated the crowd to get up, leave their tables, and dance the night away. It's always exciting to see a great DJ such as Samantha Michelle be back to continue to entertain us with her music and get the crowd going.

While attendees were in their designated groups and tables, we experienced it VIP style with a twist for the first time. Normally, they have a Media Lounge or Media Garden dedicated to VIPs and the press. This year, they wanted to give it a twist and have two long tables where VIPs, the press, influencers, and volunteers sat to enjoy the night just like all the other attendees. We enjoyed Loveblock wine, as well as dinner provided to us in a white bag to enjoy at our table. As an attendee, you would not get the full experience unless you walked around to see people's creative ensembles, table set-ups, performers, and installations. 

To me Le Diner En Blanc is an example of a perfectly executed event that doesn't disappoint year after year. It's always a pleasure to know you are invited to attend this event, the anticipation of the location is always the topic of the day. Where will it be this year? Union Square was another perfect location, not quite uptown, not quite downtown. The idea of each location is for it to be not just memorable but to surprise people in that area of the huge pop-up white party.
